Support is available for you even if you don't have a study support decision.

You can read more about the different types of support below, and for suggestions that could help you with your studies.

Listen to course literature and texts

If you have reading difficulties, you can download talking books free of charge from the Swedish Agency for Accessible Media (MTM). This may also apply even if you do not have a learning support decision.

Tortalk is a speech synthesis program that can read out all types of on-screen text, including PDF files and websites. This is available to all SLU students.

Computer programs and apps

There are many computer programs and apps that can help you with your studies. Programs for listening to texts and for help with spelling are installed on the computers in the computer rooms. You can download and install the programmes on your own computer from SLU’s software share. Log in with your student account. If you need help, turn to IT-support.

There are also several apps you can try out, such as ones that help with note-taking.

The Dyslexie font

A font specially created to make reading easier if you have dyslexia. The Dyslexie font is available on all SLU student computers.

You can also download the font to your personal computer for free from the design company’s website. Example texts with the font can be found there.

Study techniques

Studying at university differs in many ways from studying at upper-secondary school, folk high schools or adult education at upper-secondary level. There is often a considerably larger amount of course literature. There are also fewer teacher directed learning hours, meaning there is a higher demand for independence.

Therefore it is important for you to develop a good study technique that works for you. Study techniques may be anything from taking relevant notes to planning your study time and developing speed-reading methods.
