Exploring environmental psychology frontiers: Second season of the "Human Land" podcast

Human Land is now launching three episodes of Series 2, where we aim to explore how environmental psychology could support us in a system change towards healthy societies, with a socio-ecological perspective. Human Land is a podcast supported by the Department of People and Society at SLU Alnarp and the SLU Landscape network, through the SLU Teaching Synergy Forum.

This season promotes engaging discussions with a socio-ecological perspective on topics related to urban planning, spatial justice, landscape architecture, and children's health and well-being, the podcast continues to push the boundaries of interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research and exploration for system change.

 

Series 2 - Episode 1 Episode 1 - Musicians for Urban Planning: Valuing Subconscious Individual Experiences in the City

Kicking off the second season, host and lecturer from SLU Amanda Gabriel dives headfirst into the micro-level experiences for urban planning. We learn about the intriguing realm of collaborative and transdisciplinary research focused on the individual experiences within urban environments. In this episode, the spotlight turns to PEARL (Person Environment Activity Research Laboratory) in London, where the remarkable Professor Nick Tyler, the laboratory's creator and director, joins the conversation. Listeners are treated to an exploration of the importance of valuing subconscious experiences in shaping our cities and communities.

 

Series 2 Episode 2 Episode 2 - An Unwritten Future: Spatial Justice and Realms of Citizenship

The second episode, with host Hannah Arnett, SLU Alumni and independent research in health innovation, takes the audience on a journey through macro-level perspectives on spatial justice and citizenship. Dr. Matt Finch, an Associate Fellow at the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, lends his expertise in strategy, foresight, and scenario planning to the discussion. With a focus on the Imagine project in Europe, funded by Horizon 2020, this episode aims to unravel the complexities of territorial inequalities and policies promoting spatial justice and socio-economic well-being. The exploration delves deep into the psychological evolution of place and its impact on fostering healthy societies.

This is a captivating dialogue with Dr. Finch, dissecting themes such as the intersection of spatial justice and health, the role of environmental psychology in spatial planning, and the transformative power of scenario-based planning.

 

S2 - Episode 3 Episode 3 - Bringing Magic to the Schoolyard: Creating Oases for Children’s Play, Health, and Learning

The third episode of the season turns the spotlight on children's health and well-being through the lens of schoolyard design. Amanda Gabriel returns as the host, embarking on a riveting discussion with two trailblazers in the field. Researcher and Associate Professor Märit Jansson shares insights into creating welfare landscapes and sustainable greening of school grounds. The conversation then shifts to Paris, where Raphaëlle Thoiller, Project Leader of the Oasis Project, sheds light on the initiative that is transforming schoolyards into vibrant green spaces for children.
