SLU's new global network for PhD students launched

Published: 15 February 2019

On Tuesday 12 February we launched the new internal global network for PhD students with a meeting in Uppsala, Alnarp and Skara.

Fifteen of the 32 people registered to the PhD network  participated in the first meeting. They represent PhD projects in over 10 different countries in Africa, South America and Asia. Some are sandwich PhD students who do part of their project at SLU and part of the project at their home university.

During the meeting participants presented themselves and their projects for each other. Ylva Hillbur (Pro Vice-Chancellor for international relations) and Sara Gräslund (Head of SLU Global) also presented SLU’s work for global development.  Ziayd Al-Kass, PhD student at the Department of Clinical Sciences talked about his experiences of coming to Sweden as a PhD student, and Gunilla Ström Hallenberg from the same department, also gave some good advice for international PhD work.

We hope that the network will give opportunities to find new contacts and give possibilities to participate in interesting seminars and courses, as well as exchanging experience with other network members.

The next meeting for SLU's global PhD network is preliminary planned to the 24 April.

SLU's global network

The PhD network is a sub-network to SLU's newly started internal global network, which is open for all staff and PhD students at SLU who are involved or interested in collaboration with low-income countries. The network started during spring 2019 and is coordinated by SLU Global.

Please join our network and encourage colleagues and PhD students that have not yet joined to register.
