SLU takes the lead for the global sustainable development agriculture so important alliance Agrinatura. Through SLU, Sweden will lead the alliance for the next four years and Agenda 2030, the UN Sustainable Development Goals, will function as the framework for the alliance.
The commencement of SLU's leadership of Agrinatura takes place during the alliance's annual meeting being conducted at SLU during 26-28 April. Participants at the meeting are for example representatives from European universities and research institutes, the EU Commission, the FAO (UN Food and Agriculture Organization), several African organizations, for example, the Regional University's Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture and FARA (Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa). To the open workshop in the afternoon on Thursday 27 April, 94 participants from 23 different countries are registered.
- The potential of agriculture to contribute to food security in the world is huge. Agrinatura's members are knowledge organizations and our partnerships with networking and capacity-building organizations enable us to work together to eliminate hunger, says Carolyn Glynn from SLU Global, who will lead Agrinatura as President for the alliance for the next four years.
The programme for the meeting also includes a visit to Ängsholmen Dairy Farm, the first farm in the Nordic region to hold water buffalo. There the participants get acquainted with the water buffalos and also know how to milk and manufacture dairy products of buffalo milk.
