Worth knowing - M&M: Can money and management reduce tropical forest degradation?

events | internal events | seminars, workshops |

Initiatives around the world have been implemented to compensate tropical forest owners for not engaging in deforestation or degradation. Empirical evidence points to the potential for financial compensation to prevent deforestation but research on its role in reducing degradation is largely missing.

During this talk I will discuss results from a project conducted in the Ecuadorian Amazon basin to elucidate the linkages between financial compensation and degradation of tropical forests, and the prospects for management to protect their rich ecological structure.

Speaker is Francisco X Aguilar Cabezas, Professor at the Department of Forest Economics, SLU.
