Forestry decision-making bases
Decision in the forestry is based on various basis, and this course focuses on how these bases can be produced. The course acts partly about how the biological preconditions in the wood properties give preconditions for the use of the raw material and partly about the economic tool that is used to analyse minor companies in the forest sector. A large part of the course is devoted to how forestry decision-making bases can be produced and be presented in a statistical correct way and how geographical information technology (GIT) can be used for this. Apart from lectures the course contains several compulsory exercises.

Objectives
The student should after completed course
be able to identify and account for wood properties in different types of wood
be able to carry out in the forestry common calculations and calculations for achievement - and resource calculations, equipment calculations and road calculations
be able to collect, process and present statistical data in accordance with established scientific methods
master basic probability theory and statistical inference theory for calculation of confidence interval and implementation of hypothesis test
be able to use images, maps and databases to acquire forward and analyse location-specific information relevant to the forestry,
be able to make financial analyses and budgets for a minor company in the forest sector
be able to account for basic theories about capital raising, insurances and the taxes that concern the independent forest ownership.

Grading form
The grade requirements within the course grading system are set out in specific criteria. These criteria must be available by the course start at the latest.Formats and requirements for examination
If the student has not passed on a test, examiner has the right to give a supplementary assignment ? if there is cause for it and if it is possible.
If the student has a decision from SLU about particularly educational support due to physical disability has examiner right to give an adapted test or let the student carry out the test in an alternative way.
If this course syllabus is changed or if the course is closed down SLU should determine about transition rules for examination of students who have been admitted according to this course syllabus and still not have passed.
If a student has failed an examination, the examiner has the right to issue supplementary assignments. This applies if it is possible and there are grounds to do so.
The examiner can provide an adapted assessment to students entitled to study support for students with disabilities following a decision by the university. Examiners may also issue an adapted examination or provide an alternative way for the students to take the exam.
If this syllabus is withdrawn, SLU may introduce transitional provisions for examining students admitted based on this syllabus and who have not yet passed the course.
