Objectives
The purpose of the course is to give the student a basic understanding of the company’s role in sustainable development. The student will develop knowledge of concepts, theories and models in business administration that are used to describe and discuss how and why companies and their stakeholders (customers, suppliers, politicians, interset groups, international playesr etc) affect and are affected by sustainable development. The course will also provide an introduction to the Bachelor’s programme as well as training of generic skills.
After completing the course, the student should be able to:
Describe how companies and their stakeholders affect and are affected by each other using concepts and models in business administration
Describe in which way companies take social responsibility for a sustainable development.
Describe environmental, social and economic sustainability perspectives.
Discuss the connection between environmental, social and economic aspects from a business perspective.
Present academic work, both in writing and orally.
Discuss scientific literature, both in writing and orally.
Broadly describe basic scientific theory (descriptive/explanatory/normative).
Content
The course is carried out through lectures, guest lectures, compulsory seminars and compulsory study visits.
The course provides an introduction to business administration and sustainable development. The student develops a basic understanding of how the company and its stakeholders affects sustainable development and how sustainable development affects the company and its stakeholders.
Grading form
The grade requirements within the course grading system are set out in specific criteria. These criteria must be available by the course start at the latest.
Formats and requirements for examination
Approved memoranda.
Approved participation in compulsory seminars and compulsory study visits.
If a student has failed an examination, the examiner has the right to issue supplementary assignments. This applies if it is possible and there are grounds to do so.
The examiner can provide an adapted assessment to students entitled to study support for students with disabilities following a decision by the university. Examiners may also issue an adapted examination or provide an alternative way for the students to take the exam.
If this syllabus is withdrawn, SLU may introduce transitional provisions for examining students admitted based on this syllabus and who have not yet passed the course.
For the assessment of an independent project (degree project), the examiner may also allow a student to add supplemental information after the deadline for submission. Read more in the Education Planning and Administration Handbook.
