The course aims to give an overview of scientific methods in business administration.
After successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
prepare a draft essay,
account for the qualities of a well-written problem formulation, as well as discuss how to develop theoretical and empirical support in a problem formulation,
in general terms describe different methods as well as argue for and choose between these,
evaluate and discuss the content of academic papers.
Content
The course is based mainly on lectures, compulsory seminars as well as a compulsory draft essay.
The course is divided into three parts:
Reading and analysis of academic papers.
Studies of basic theory of scientific method.
To prepare and discuss a draft essay.
Grading form
The grade requirements within the course grading system are set out in specific criteria. These criteria must be available by the course start at the latest.Formats and requirements for examination
Passed exam.
Passed assignment.
Participation in compulsory components.
If a student has failed an examination, the examiner has the right to issue supplementary assignments. This applies if it is possible and there are grounds to do so.
The examiner can provide an adapted assessment to students entitled to study support for students with disabilities following a decision by the university. Examiners may also issue an adapted examination or provide an alternative way for the students to take the exam.
If this syllabus is withdrawn, SLU may introduce transitional provisions for examining students admitted based on this syllabus and who have not yet passed the course.
For the assessment of an independent project (degree project), the examiner may also allow a student to add supplemental information after the deadline for submission. Read more in the Education Planning and Administration Handbook.

The right to participate in teaching and/or supervision only applies for the course instance the student was admitted to and registered on.
If there are special reasons, students are entitled to participate in components with compulsory attendance when the course is given again. Read more in the Education Planning and Administration Handbook.

Liber: Stockholm (ISBN 9789147149032). **Det går även bra att använda upplaga 3 från 2017 samt 2 från 2013 (dessa saknar dock några kapitel, vilka då behöver kompletteras, t.ex. genom att låna ett ex. på biblioteket eller av en vän). Bra att känna till är att Bryman & Bell (den engelska versionen) ingår i kurslitteraturen för metodkursen på masternivå.
