Objectives
The purpose of this course is for students to acquire fundamental theoretical knowledge and some practical skills regarding a selection of methods in rehabilitation within veterinary nursing, with a focus on horses, dogs, and cats.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to
- broadly describe the healing process for the various tissues of the musculoskeletal system,
- broadly describe selected rehabilitation and evaluation techniques, focusing on indications, contraindications, explanatory models, and mechanisms of action,
- critically evaluate the scientific basis of selected rehabilitation and evaluation methods, and address common questions from animal owners regarding these methods,
- reflect on issues concerning animal welfare and worker safety that may arise in rehabilitation work,
- perform a limited number of rehabilitation and evaluation techniques in practice.

Teaching in basic evidence-based rehabilitation within veterinary nursing,** focusing on the healing of tissue injuries, as well as when, how, and why a selection of evaluation and treatment methods are used, along with ethical considerations in rehabilitation work. The student will also engage in activities aimed at professional development.
*Teaching formats
*To further student learning and promote discussion, a variety of methods are used: through lectures, exercises, presentations, and skill-training sessions on models, live, and/or deceased animals.
*The course focuses on the following generic competencies:
*Critical thinking, ethics, scientific methods, information literacy, problem-solving, independence, and oral communication.
*The following sections are mandatory:
*Some seminars, exercises, practical skills training and sections of professional development.
Grading form
The grade requirements within the course grading system are set out in specific criteria. These criteria must be available by the course start at the latest.Formats and requirements for examination
Passed oral examination. Approved participation in compulsory components.
If a student has failed an examination, the examiner has the right to issue supplementary assignments. This applies if it is possible and there are grounds to do so.
The examiner can provide an adapted assessment to students entitled to study support for students with disabilities following a decision by the university. Examiners may also issue an adapted examination or provide an alternative way for the students to take the exam.
If this syllabus is withdrawn, SLU may introduce transitional provisions for examining students admitted based on this syllabus and who have not yet passed the course.
For the assessment of an independent project (degree project), the examiner may also allow a student to add supplemental information after the deadline for submission. Read more in the Education Planning and Administration Handbook.
