Campus Canopy Changes

Tractor moving a tree

Hello there, Johan Lindersson, project manager for the tree relocation at Ultuna campus…

How has the move gone so far?
– Very well! We’ve already been able to relocate over 90 trees and the work has progressed without any major problems. A few trees had to be left out and some slightly adjusted in their placement, but overall everything has gone smoothly.

What happens next?
– We’re now taking a break from tree relocation until November, as archaeologists will be carrying out investigations in October at some of the sites where trees are planned to be planted. In the meantime, the relocated trees are being looked after with watering and monitoring to ensure their survival.

You came across unexpected obstacles underground – how does that affect the project?
– We found a concrete beam and some other things that needed to be removed. It’s a bit of extra work but nothing that will stop us. We fill in with gravel wherever we dig so that the area remains accessible.

Is there anything that worries you going forward?
– Not really. It’s mainly about continuing to look after the trees that have already been moved and adapting the work when we encounter unforeseen challenges. Our goal is always to ensure that as many trees as possible survive the relocation. Then of course there’s always the possibility that the archaeologists might find something interesting, and that could affect the project both in terms of time and where we’re able to place trees.
