The deadline for applications to the international master’s programmes, as well as international courses and programmes, passed on 15 January. This year, SLU has seen a noticeable increase in the number of first-choice applicants.

Compared to the previous year, applications for international master’s programmes have risen by 13 per cent, while the international bachelor’s programme Forest and Landscape has seen an increase of around 10 per cent.

Over the past five years, the trend for first-choice applications to SLU’s international master’s programmes has been steadily rising – a positive development that reflects the growing interest in SLU’s educational offerings.

One contributing factor to this increase is our proactive approach in reaching prospective students.

Fairs and advertising

In the past year, we have participated in eight digital education fairs with a global reach, as well as physical fairs in Canada, Indonesia, and Thailand. These efforts have been complemented by digital advertising aimed at reaching an even broader audience.

Additionally, SLU advertises on education platforms such as Educations.com and Masterstudies.com, which allows outreach to students both in Europe and globally.

We also provides direct communication channels between prospective and current students, with the Unibuddy platform playing a key role. Over the past year, SLU’s international student ambassadors – a group of 10–12 students – have engaged in personal chat conversations with nearly 700 prospective students via this platform.

Our presence on social media is another important part of showcasing student life, with Instagram being the primary platform. Our digital student ambassadors actively contribute content that provides an insight into life at SLU.

SLU’s faculties are also implementing targeted initiatives to attract international students, and it is encouraging to see how our collective efforts continue to increase global interest in SLU’s educational programmes.
