The Role
As an intern, you will report to the Climate Modeling Lead at IWC AM+ and have a prominent role as the third team member, in coordinating, building, and delivering climate, carbon, and ecosystem modelling tools and analysis products, internally as well as portfolio-wide and towards investors.
Your Responsibilities:
The intern role will have a key role in building carbon, climate risk, ecosystem, and ESG data, analysis, and reporting systems. The intern will be involved in most ESG activities globally, and as the team and system grows, responsibilities may develop. For the duration of the internship, the main tasks and responsibilities will be:
- Under supervision of the Modeling Lead, contribute to implementing our in-house carbon and forest modelling tool (88-90%), including:
- Write Python code for all necessary data flows between GIS, forest optimization software, and our carbon modeling system.
- Utilize public data sources to inform modeling decisions including harvested wood product mixes, growth and yield, and natural disturbances.
- Explore and keep updated on modelling and technology
- Utilize template carbon models and expand them across management units for annual carbon reporting and due diligence; organize those templates in a shared
- Help develop Python and SQL scripts for post-processing and
- Help develop and implement QA processes for carbon
- Provide carbon, ecosystem, landscape and adaptation relevant analysis and products (10- 12%), including for:
- Due diligence as a ESG resource for deal teams, participating in applying ESG due diligence procedures and tools and providing the bulk of the analysis together with local teams.
- Forest management during ownership, g., support the development of carbon credits, climate mitigation plans and measures, adaptation solutions, and forest health monitoring.
- External ESG reporting in data and text for clients and investors for leading sustainability and net zero standards and framework, like EU SFDR.

About you
The ideal candidate will be/have:
- You are based in Copenhagen and bring experience in programming tools and analytics relating to economics, ecology, forest sustainability, or carbon accounting, ideally with exposure to LULUCF/AFOLU/IPCC GPG and an educational background in forestry/climate/carbon/biodiversity/ecology analytics and reporting in relation to forests is preferred, but many different backgrounds can be considered.
- A relevant educational background and some professional experience involving GIS tools and spatial data management and analytics based on remote sensing, ideally for forests, e.g., forest inventories/growth modelling, forest health analysis, or forest risk
- Some applied proficiency in coding and scripting in Python and SQL in a relevant context and familiarity with most common files formats, database systems, and data products.
- Some experience with C++, R, or JavaScript may be considered as well in the absence of Python and SQL if you have demonstrated proficiencies through software development and computer science and programming in general.
- A structured and organized mindset, that takes pride and joy in working with and analyzing large amounts of (spatial) data and manage all the necessary steps to provide solid data products crucial for the AM+ strategy and client experience.
- Tech based and digital approach, curious to learn about and test new tools, sensors, and modelling tools.
