Examinations at SLU

Last changed: 13 January 2026

Written examinations held in examination halls are a common form of assessment at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU). Examinations may be traditional on-campus examinations or on-campus e-examinations and take place in an examination hall under the supervision of invigilators.

To be eligible to sit an examination, you must be registered for the relevant examination session via Ladok Student and bring a valid photo ID.

Under each expandable heading below, you will find further information on the regulations that apply to examinations at Campus Umeå (Skogishuset), Alnarp, and Ultuna.

Register in Ladok Student

SLU strives to ensure that examinations are conducted in a legally secure and fair manner, in accordance with the Education planning and administration handbook.

  • Registration for the relevant examination session is mandatory in order to sit an examination. You are responsible for registering via Ladok Student. When registering, students with approved targeted educational support may also request accommodations for the specific examination session.
  • Late registrations or unregistered students are not permitted.
If you are not registered, you will not be allowed to sit the examination and will be referred to the next available session.
  • If you experience technical problems with your registration, please contact your course administrator before the registration period closes.

Information on adapted examinations

Students with approved targeted educational support may request examination accommodations directly in Ladok Student for each individual examination session (for example extended writing time, access to a computer with assistive software, or a smaller examination room).

Your need for accommodations may vary between examinations. Please therefore select only the accommodations you require for each specific session.

How do I request support for an examination?

  • Register for the examination session in Ladok Student.
    • When you click “Register”, the available support options will be displayed.
    • Select the accommodations you wish to use for this examination.
    • Confirm your registration.

  • If you forgot to request support when registering, you may return to your registration while it is still open and submit your requests.
  • Once Exam Services has processed your request, you will receive an email confirming which accommodations have been approved. You may also follow the process via the relevant examination session in Ladok Student.
  • For assistance, contact Examination Services at your campus:

Available assistive software

For traditional on-campus examinations, you will have access to a laptop and a Word document containing the examination. You may choose to write your answers digitally or by hand on paper. Spell checking in Word and TorTalk (text-to-speech) are available.

For on-campus e-examinations, you will write your examination on a desktop computer using the system Inspera. Inspera’s spell-checking function for essay questions and TorTalk are available.

Anonymisation code

Both traditional on-campus examinations and on-campus e-examinations at SLU use anonymisation codes to ensure that marking is carried out anonymously.

  • When you register for an examination session in Ladok Student, you will receive an anonymisation code. Make a note of the code and bring it with you to the examination. You must present the code upon entry.
  • If no anonymisation code is provided via Ladok Student, you will be issued one in the examination hall.
  • For on-campus e-examinations, the anonymisation code is automatically registered in Inspera.

Examination room allocation

Approximately three (3) days before the examination, you can view your assigned examination hall via TimeEdit.

Traditional on-campus examinations

Traditional on-campus examinations are completed on paper in the designated examination halls on campus and are supervised by invigilators. Specific rules apply in the examination hall (read more under Rules in the examination hall).

  • Entry is granted once your valid photo ID has been checked and your name has been marked on the attendance list.
  • At the entrance, you will receive a seating card indicating where you are to sit.
  • Answers are written on paper. Your anonymisation code must be written clearly in the upper right corner of each page.
  • When submitting your examination: Check that the anonymisation code on the submission list corresponds to the code written on your examination. Then check that the number of submitted pages is correct and sign to confirm submission.

Students who are not listed as registered will not be admitted to the examination hall.

On-campus e-exams

On-campus e-examinations take place in an examination hall under the supervision of invigilators and are conducted using Inspera. Each seat is equipped with a desktop computer. Specific rules apply in the examination hall (read more under Rules in the examination hall).

  • Entry is granted once your valid photo ID has been checked and your name has been marked on the attendance list.
  • At the entrance, you will receive a seating card indicating where you are to sit.
  • Log in using your student IT account credentials (the same login details used for Canvas and TimeEdit). If you have forgotten your password, you must leave the examination hall to reset it. If writing time has started when you return, you must wait for the second admission. If the delay is longer, you will be referred to a resit.

Without an active student IT account, you cannot sit the examination.

  • The anonymisation code generated via Ladok Student is pre-registered in Inspera when you log in.

Locations for on-campus e-examinations

  • Campus Ultuna:
On-campus e-examinations are held in the Teaching Building, Almas Allé 10, in Examination Halls 1 and 2, as well as smaller rooms for adapted examinations. All rooms are equipped with desktop computers.
  • Campus Alnarp:
On-campus e-examinations are conducted in cooperation with Malmö University and take place in Malmö University’s examination hall Kranen, Östra Varvsgatan 11A.

  • Arrive at least 20 minutes before the scheduled start time.
  • For traditional examinations, bring your anonymisation code received through Ladok Student.

  • You may bring food and drink, except peanuts. Transparent containers are recommended.
  • Avoid scheduling travel close to the examination. If something happens during startup, the ending time may be delayed.
  • Avoid strong fragrances.

Rules in the examination hall

  • All electronic equipment and wristwatches must be switched off and stored in your bag or jacket in the designated area.
  • Personal earplugs are not permitted; earplugs are available in the hall.
  • A valid photo ID must be placed visibly on your desk throughout the examination.
  • Only approved materials, writing tools, food and drink may be on the desk.
  • Inform an invigilator before the examination starts if you use medical equipment.
  • Read the examination instructions carefully before you begin.
  • You may not leave the examination hall within the first 45 minutes, even if you submit a blank examination.
  • All suspected misconduct is reported.
  • The invigilator will announce when the writing time is coming to an end.

  • If you have questions, raise your hand.

Submission procedures for traditional examinations:

  • Write your anonymisation code clearly on all pages before the end of the writing time.
  • Stop writing immediately when time is called.
  • When you are ready to submit, raise your seating card and wait for the invigilator’s instruction. Bring your ID and all distributed materials. Check that the anonymisation code, name, personal identity number and number of pages are correct, then sign the submission list.
  • For blank submissions, write the anonymisation code and clearly mark “Blank” on the first page.

For those writing e-examinations:

  • Raise the computer screen to its maximum height.
  • During toilet visits, complete the current question and proceed to the next unanswered question.

Sitting an examination at another location

As a student at SLU, you may apply to sit your examination at a different location. Approval is granted by the examiner. Please follow the procedure outlined below.

At campuses where a central organisation for examination administration exists (currently Uppsala, Alnarp and Umeå):

  • The student must contact the examiner or course coordinator with their request. Having valid reasons alone is not sufficient; considerations of legal certainty and available resources must also be taken into account.
  • The examiner/course coordinator or equivalent submits the request to Examination Services (Tentamensservice, TS) if the examiner considers it feasible.
  • Examination Services assesses whether the necessary conditions are in place and reports back to the examiner/course coordinator or equivalent.
  • The examiner/course coordinator then informs the student of the decision.
  • The student must be registered for the relevant examination session via Ladok Student within the designated registration period.

At campuses where no central organisation for examination administration exists:

  • The student must contact the examiner or course coordinator with their request.
  • For each examination, the examiner decides whether SLU can permit a student to sit the examination at a different location. Having valid reasons alone is not sufficient; considerations of legal certainty and available resources must also be taken into account.
  • It is the student’s responsibility, at the time of examination registration, to ensure that there is a responsible administrator or equivalent, an invigilator or equivalent, and a suitable examination venue at the location where the student wishes to sit the examination.
  • The student must be registered for the relevant examination session via Ladok Student within the designated registration period.
