Guidelines for oral and poster presentations

Last changed: 20 March 2025

Oral presentation

Students who have been selected to do an oral presentation in one of the sessions should prepare a presentation that will last for a maximum of 15 minutes. This is followed by a five minutes discussion with the audience.

  • You need to be able to speak freely (not read from a paper) and to show a presentation (powerpoint or similar).
  • Remember to use your university logo in the presentation.
  • Come to the presentation room 15 minutes in advance to ensure the presentation works.
  • We welcome your presentation in advance, but if not possible, it is possible to bring it on a memory stick to the conference.

Poster presentation

There will be guided poster sessions during the Scientific Student Conference with approx. 8-10 posters in each session. During these sessions, authors must be present by their poster board and prepared to deliver a three minute pitch of the poster. The presentation is followed by two minutes of questions from the audience.

Content of the poster

  • Place the title of your paper prominently at the top of the poster board to allow viewers to identify your paper easily. Indicate the title and the author(s) name(s) of your paper. The title of your poster must be the same as the title of your submitted abstract.
  • You are encouraged to include a photo of yourself on the poster so that you can be identified during the conference.
  • Highlight your name and contact information, in case the viewer is interested in contacting you for more information.
  • Include your university logo on the poster.
  • Prepare all diagrams or charts neatly and legibly beforehand, in a size sufficient to be read at a distance of 1.5–2.0 meters. The type should be at least 2.5 cm high. Use creativity by using different font sizes and styles. Use different colours or textures for each line or bars contained in your graph or chart.
  • Organize the paper on the poster board so that it is clear, orderly, and self-explanatory. The presentation must cover the same material as the abstract. Label different elements as 1, 2, 3, or A, B, C. This will make it easier for a viewer to follow your display.
  • A successful poster presentation depends on how well you convey the information to the audience. Ensure that your audience get some insight into the background of your research, in order to understand your results and conclusions.
