- 60 credits forest management/forest sciences/forestry science and 30 credits business economics
Objectives
In this course, the student should practice skills and specialise in knowledge that is required to lead forestry operation and work with further transportation. The student should, on completion of the course, be able to: - justify the choice of technical systems for Swedish forestry and transport based on the function and properties of the machines - calculate cost for machines and resource balances - suggest solutions to challenges in logging both today and in the future. - use main concept and the basic principles in the wood supply chain - evaluate business models for forestry operation and further transportation. - participate actively in tender and negotiating contractses.
Content
The course is a professional or vocational course with the aim that the student should practice skills and specialise in knowledge that is required to lead forestry operation and further transportation. Subject areas as for instance are concerned through literature studies, lectures, exercises, seminars, study trips and group assignments are: - machines and production system, - cost management, - organisational and technical development, - Logging operation planning - forestry technique, - logistic and wood supply, - business models and contract, - agreement and negotiation The course is carried out in close connection to the sector, R&D organisation, equipment manufacturers and the applied research. Through an individual project work, the student possibility to practice communicative skills as well as to specialisation during about 2 weeks is given in a for the course relevant thematic area. Compulsory components in the course occur for example in the form of guest lectures, study trips, seminars, exercises, project work, project presentation and examinations.

Passed oral and written presentations, passed written examinations as well as participation in compulsory components.
If a student has failed an examination, the examiner has the right to issue supplementary assignments. This applies if it is possible and there are grounds to do so.
The examiner can provide an adapted assessment to students entitled to study support for students with disabilities following a decision by the university. Examiners may also issue an adapted examination or provide an alternative way for the students to take the exam.
If this syllabus is withdrawn, SLU may introduce transitional provisions for examining students admitted based on this syllabus and who have not yet passed the course.
For the assessment of an independent project (degree project), the examiner may also allow a student to add supplemental information after the deadline for submission. Read more in the Education Planning and Administration Handbook.
Other information
The right to participate in teaching and/or supervision only applies for the course instance the student was admitted to and registered on.
If there are special reasons, students are entitled to participate in components with compulsory attendance when the course is given again. Read more in the Education Planning and Administration Handbook.
Additional information
In connection with the compulsory travels with overnight stay come a certain fee to take of student to cover costs for travel and accommodation.Responsible department
