After completion of the course students are expected to:
-be able to discuss the purpose of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and apply the meaning of the term "environment" used in EIA both orally and in a written form,
account for Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) - and Environmental Impact Assessment processes and discuss their role in decision and planning processes,
identify the different stakeholders and critically discuss their responsibilities in decision and planning processes,
apply the knowledge acquired in undergraduate studies in discussions, exercises and the project regarding SEA/EIA,
argue for how different environmental aspects can be integrated in SEA/EIA.
Content
The course intends to give an insight into the purpose and meaning of conducting SEA and EIA. The course is based on lectures, exercises, seminars, literature studies and a minor EIA-project. The course focuses on how different environmental aspects are handled in SEA/EIA and the roles and responsibilities of the different stakeholders. The laws and regulations regarding SEA/EIA and the decision and planning processes in which they are used are also central in the course. The course also includes exercises aiming at getting a better understanding of important principles of SEA/EIA. The students apply their skills from earlier studies in a minor EIA-project.
Grading form
The grade requirements within the course grading system are set out in specific criteria. These criteria must be available by the course start at the latest.Formats and requirements for examination
