Objectives
The aim of the course is to provide an understanding of global animal production, focusing on the role, development, and utilization of food-producing animals. Upon completing the course, students should be able to:
- explain the importance of food-producing animals for sustainable development,
- describe, compare, and explain the role of food-producing animals in different parts of the world,
- describe and critically evaluate various production systems and animal resources in terms of production, sustainable use, and environmental impact,
- provide an overview of how climate, production inputs, market access, international trade, and consumption of animal products affect production opportunities.
Content
The course addresses food-producing animals on a global scale. It integrates breeding, nutrition, management, and market aspects, as well as the impact of the environment on production. Various production systems (including aquaculture) and population structures are analyzed and compared across different regions of the world. The course also explores challenges for sustainable production posed by climate change and reduced land availability.
Grading form
The grade requirements within the course grading system are set out in specific criteria. These criteria must be available by the course start at the latest.Formats and requirements for examination
