Välkommen till kursen Växtskydd och mikrobiologi!
Kursen börjar 22 mars kl 9.15 i Articum 4 med modulen Mikrobiologi 5 hp. Modulen Växtskydd 10 hp börjar 20 april. Ett preliminärt schema är tillgänglig här på kurshemsidan och även i Canvas. Notera att det kommer att bli några justeringar i schemat angående studiebesök i maj. Canvas-rummet är publicerat med innehåll för mikrobiologin för att börja med. Moduler för växtskydd tilläggs senare. Till kännedom: s.k. sprutcertifikat kommer inte att ingå i kursen.

Knowledge equivalent to 60 credits in biology or horticultural science of which at least 5 credits in plant protection.Objectives
The aim of the course is to obtain advanced knowledge within plant protection. Knowledge on how to interpret injuries on plants and how to plan and carry out actions against different types of pests are deepened during the course. Knowledge in general microbiology is included in the course, combined with deepened understanding of the importance of microorganisms for plants and as production organisms.
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
describe systematics, biology, ecology and morphology within different groups of pests, beneficial organisms and other important microorganisms
carry out appropriate microbiological diagnostic tests and analytical methods - diagnose injuries caused by different groups of pests
explain differences between different plant protection strategies and describe how different cultivation techniques influence pests and weeds
describe application methods and the environmental impact of chemical and biological pesticides.
Content
The course includes arthropods (insects, arachnids), nematodes, fungi, oomycetes, bacteria, viruses and weeds in horticulture based on:
organisms biology, ecology, morphology and fields of use
diagnostic and analytical methods
source of infection and the infection process
the impact of parasitic fungi on plants
disease development and the defence system of plants
interactions between insects, plants and microorganisms, focused on both negative and positive aspects
resistance mechanisms of plants and pests
integrated plant protection
forecasting methods and population dynamics
biological and chemical plant protection strategies, with GMO
plant protection and application techniques
impact on environment and health
consulting and communication of plant protection and microbiology.
Scheduled laboratory sessions, exercises, seminars and study visits are compulsory.
Grading form
The grade requirements within the course grading system are set out in specific criteria. These criteria must be available by the course start at the latest.Formats and requirements for examination
The examination consists of written assignments, laboratory reports and written examination in plant protection. To pass the course, approved participation in compulsory components and approved examination are required.
If a student has failed an examination, the examiner has the right to issue supplementary assignments. This applies if it is possible and there are grounds to do so.
The examiner can provide an adapted assessment to students entitled to study support for students with disabilities following a decision by the university. Examiners may also issue an adapted examination or provide an alternative way for the students to take the exam.
If this syllabus is withdrawn, SLU may introduce transitional provisions for examining students admitted based on this syllabus and who have not yet passed the course.
For the assessment of an independent project (degree project), the examiner may also allow a student to add supplemental information after the deadline for submission. Read more in the Education Planning and Administration Handbook.

The right to participate in teaching and/or supervision only applies for the course instance the student was admitted to and registered on.
