specific entry requirements: 90 credits in one of the following subjects:



• architecture

• landscape architecture

• landscape planning

• built environment

• design

• spatial planning

• geography

• landscape science

• environmental science

• civil engineering.



And



English 6 or equivalent.

Objectives

After completion of the course the students should be able to

• have a thorough understanding of landscape architecture both as an academic subject and as a professional field
• show a certain familiarity with the sketch as a tool to explore and test spatial characteristics and problems by giving shape to thoughts and ideas
• be able to make an individual study plan with a selection of courses suited to their present competence

Content

The course treats the aims, methods and practice of landscape architecture which are introduced theoretically and applied through practice in exercises and projects. These projects are set as specific case studies where the students over time will add knowledge and outcomes to a context in both place and space in different scales.

Landscape architecture is explored through a combination of case studies, projects, lectures, literature studies, workshops and excursions. Findings and insights are discussed in seminars.

The course focuses on the following general skills:

Critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, visual communication, ability to work autonomously.

The following sections are compulsory:

Compulsory exercises, seminars and field trips are marked in timetable.

Grading form

The grade requirements within the course grading system are set out in specific criteria. These criteria must be available by the course start at the latest.

Formats and requirements for examination

Approved participation in compulsory components, approved project work, approved course portfolio.

• If a student has failed an examination, the examiner has the right to issue supplementary assignments. This applies if it is possible and there are grounds to do so.

• The examiner can provide an adapted assessment to students entitled to study support for students with disabilities following a decision by the university. Examiners may also issue an adapted examination or provide an alternative way for the students to take the exam.

• If this syllabus is withdrawn, SLU may introduce transitional provisions for examining students admitted based on this syllabus and who have not yet passed the course.

• For the assessment of an independent project (degree project), the examiner may also allow a student to add supplemental information after the deadline for submission. Read more in the Education Planning and Administration Handbook.

• The right to participate in teaching and/or supervision only applies for the course instance the student was admitted to and registered on.

The course is aimed at students intending to study second-cycle courses in Landscape Architecture with first-cycle qualification in an adjacent field of study.
