Eight hours a day, five days a week for about 50 years … that’s how much we are expected to work. But does it have to be that way? Are all tasks at work equally valuable? How is society shaped by wage-work? What are your thoughts?
Welcome to Studium Generale, SLU’s initiative for broader reflection on current topics. As the first event of the spring semester, Roland Paulsen, docent in sociology at Lund University, will present his thoughts on work, wages and social development.
The lecture will be streamed via Zoom to lecture halls at the main SLU locations. As usual, after the presentation there will be time to reflect together at our main campuses. We will serve sandwiches and coffee/tea.

The presentation is given in English. In the following conversations, you are of course free to speak the language you prefer.
We bid you a warm welcome!
In today's world, few skills are as important as being able to reflect on your own opinions and behaviour: what has made me think the way I do? What do I know that I know and what do I take for granted? Inspired by Dutch and German universities, SLU launched Studium Generale - a series of activities for students and staff focusing on joint reflection on current topics. Nothing is compulsory, nothing is recorded - it's an opportunity to test your thoughts without being judged.
If you have any questions about Studium Generale in general or about this event, please contact Pernilla Glaser (pernilla.glaser@slu.se).
