Welcome to our third Urban Forests webinar of the semester. This time, we welcome Pedro Obregon, Ph. D. student at the department of forest economics at SLU. Pedro will present his research project which deals with the influence of adaptive and participatory governance of urban green spaces.
Originally from Venezuela, Pedro has a background in socioeconomics and environmental economics. He is currently a Ph. D. student at the department of forest economics at SLU Umeå.
Pedro's research project deals with what he calls the utilization of valuation techniques for non-market amenities. He also works with issues connected to urban green spaces.
Pedro's research is aimed at measuring and evaluating the values people put on being in nature. For exemple recreation, social effects and positive health effects. Since we live in a world that prioritizes things with a monetary value set by a market, Pedro and his colleagues use methods that emphasize these types of green spaces. This can in turn be used to communicate to city planners, policy makers etc, that they are important.
In this talk, Pedro will explore the influence of adaptive and participatory governance on the management of urban green spaces. I.e. if and to what extent citizens would be willing to partitipate in planning and managing urban green spaces.
The webinar series on Urban Forests is arranged by SLU Urban Futures and SLU Future Forests to shed light on various aspects and opportunities for research on forests in urban environments.
