Research methods in social sciences

This course focuses on developing method skills for students in social sciences, through assigned readings, discussion seminars, and in written assignments. Practical empirical examples of approaches are discussed and implications in terms of ethical aspects, and consequences of methodological choices are evaluated. The course is divided in modules that is assessed in tasks continuously throughout the course time. A final project includes taking the role as discussants, as part of developing interpersonal skills.

This is a digitally based course with synchronous lectures and seminars. You need to have access to a stable internet, a microphone and a camera in order to participate in this cousrse. We do not record lectures or seminars.

The course starts Tuesday September 3rd (2024) at 09.15 (Swedish time, mandatory attendance if you want to take the course).

A preliminary schedule is available on this page, and a final one will be made available in Canvas (the domain for the course) along with a lot of other materials. ALL students need to say yes to the course offer they get from the admissions in order to be registered. Should you decide not to take the course, you need to un-register. This is the last time the course is offered. A 7.5 hp course will be offered next fall and onwards.

If you are not a program student, you may need to make contact with the IT-department Support to attain an SLU-student-identity (to get an e-mail account and access VP). The SLU libraries are available on our main campuses in Alnarp, Skara, Uppsala, Skinnskatteberg and Umeå. The digital access, however, is not bound to a particular campus.
