Extensive herding systems, like reindeer husbandry, make use of animals' natural adaptation to the environment. However, in reindeer husbandry winter-feeding has increased due to competing land use activities and climate change. In our project "REINFEED" we want to investigate short and long term effects on reindeer feeding behavior. We are offering a possibility to conduct a master project related to reindeer behavior when fed in enclosures. In this thesis you gain experience in behavioral studies in participating in a feeding trial. The work involves practical work with the animals, analysis of video films, compilation and processing of data and report writing. You are welcome to suggest own topics related to reindeer behavior when kept in enclosure (e.g., social interactions, behavioral patterns etc) or choose feeding behavior as your main topic.
