Master thesis project opportunity spring/summer 2021 - Healthy roots – how to select wheat genotypes with high cropping security?
The root system of crops is important for nutrient uptake, disease resistance and adaptation to different environments. Using wheat as a model crop, this thesis offers the opportunity to evaluate some aspects of the association of root traits in different wheat genotypes with nutrient use efficiency, root pathogen resistance, and yield in different cultivation environments and systems.
The project will be based on field trials and developed in collaboration with the student. Field trials are available in Uppland, Västergötland, Östergötland and Skåne but it will be possible to carry out the project in Uppsala only.
Suitable study background: biology, agricultural sciences or similar. Driving license is appreciated. The thesis is part of the Hero project, a collaboration between SLU and the Swedish plant breeding company Lantmännen. There is also the possibility to work as an assistant in other parts of the project.
