Objectives
After completion of the course the students should be able to:
have a thorough understanding of landscape architecture both as an academic subject and as a professional field
be able to relate the field of landscape architecture to their previous field of study
be able to make an individual study plan with a selection of courses suited to their present competence
Content
The course treats the aims, methods and academics of landscape architecture in relation to adjacent fields that are introduced theoretically and followed up by projects. These projects are set as specific case studies in groups where the students over time will add knowledge and outcomes to a context in both place and space in different scales. Afterwards the students will work individually and deepen the case study based on their previous studies. Finally they are to choose direction for their personal master. Landscape architecture is explored through a combination of lectures, literature studies, workshops and excursions. Findings and insights are discussed in seminars.
Grading form
The grade requirements within the course grading system are set out in specific criteria. These criteria must be available by the course start at the latest.Formats and requirements for examination
The quality of compulsory assignments and reports submitted by students will be evaluated throughout the course. The students’ ability to make oral presentations and their ability to engage each other in critical and analytical discussions will also be evaluated in the project work and in seminars. Specifications of compulsory attendance and assignments are given at course start.
If a student has failed an examination, the examiner has the right to issue supplementary assignments. This applies if it is possible and there are grounds to do so.
The examiner can provide an adapted assessment to students entitled to study support for students with disabilities following a decision by the university. Examiners may also issue an adapted examination or provide an alternative way for the students to take the exam.
If this syllabus is withdrawn, SLU may introduce transitional provisions for examining students admitted based on this syllabus and who have not yet passed the course.
For the assessment of an independent project (degree project), the examiner may also allow a student to add supplemental information after the deadline for submission. Read more in the Education Planning and Administration Handbook.
Transitional provisions
• **Exams**: At least three retake sessions (renewed exams) will be offered within two years of the decision to discontinue the course. • **Compulsory components**: At least one opportunity for a retake session will be offered within two years of the decision to discontinue the course.Other information
The right to participate in teaching and/or supervision only applies for the course instance the student was admitted to and registered on.
If there are special reasons, students are entitled to participate in components with compulsory attendance when the course is given again. Read more in the Education Planning and Administration Handbook.
