with supervision perform maintenance activities focusing on pruning in different types of plantings
Judgement and approach
- reflect and describe their own process of knowledge and learning in the first year
Content
The course consists of two parts, design of urban space and plant knowledge.
Design of urban space
This part of the course consists primarily of a larger compulsory design exercise where the task is to design an urban space. Shorter sketch exercises are included to support the main task. The task is carried out individually and in groups, and is done with an established sketch method: inventory, analysis, test solutions and present a proposal in plan, sections and perspectives with components such as history, use, structure, space, materials, sensory experiences and characters. The student train in producing images and present ideas orally, visually and in text.
Plant knowledge
This part of the course is largely based on plant tours and the students own studies outdoors, where the emphasis is on the importance of plants in landscape architecture and basic plant biology. Learning of new plants alternate with the students own rehearsal of trees and shrubs from previous courses, and with practical compulsory management activities outdoors and lectures. In lecture, plants structure and growth are introduced. Plant knowledge is applied in compulsory design exercises. This part of the course concludes with an examination of plant identification, conducted outdoors.
The course concludes with students reporting a compulsory reflection of one´s own process of knowledge and learning in the first year.
The course gives 10 credits of proficiency training.
Grading form
The grade requirements within the course grading system are set out in specific criteria. These criteria must be available by the course start at the latest.Formats and requirements for examination
The course is divided into two sub examinations corresponding to the course two subjects. The parts are graded separately and are put together according to the course assessment criteria.
Design of urban space 8 credits: Approved assignments.
Plant knowledge 7 credits: Approved written examination and approved exercises.
If a student has failed an examination, the examiner has the right to issue supplementary assignments. This applies if it is possible and there are grounds to do so.
The examiner can provide an adapted assessment to students entitled to study support for students with disabilities following a decision by the university. Examiners may also issue an adapted examination or provide an alternative way for the students to take the exam.
If this syllabus is withdrawn, SLU may introduce transitional provisions for examining students admitted based on this syllabus and who have not yet passed the course.
For the assessment of an independent project (degree project), the examiner may also allow a student to add supplemental information after the deadline for submission. Read more in the Education Planning and Administration Handbook.
